Maternal Fetal Medicine With advanced training and experience in high-risk obstetrics and prenatal diagnosis, we manage complications in pregnancy, including multiple pregnancies, placental abnormalities, fetal anomalies, genetic disorders, nutritional issues and infectious diseases. Maternal-Fetal Medicine provides exceptional prenatal care to expectant women, and their unborn babies, who are considered “high risk” because of potential pregnancy-related problems or special health reasons. Prenatal care includes frequent appointments with our specialized clinical staff. At WVU Medicine, we are strongly committed to providing care for the women of West Virginia and the surrounding region who have complicated or high-risk pregnancies.

Maternal Fetal Medicine is able to provide non-invasive screening for chromosome abnormalities and birth defects in the form of NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal testing). NIPT is a prenatal screening which looks at DNA from your baby's placenta in a sample of your blood to identify whether you're at increased risk of giving birth to a child with a genetic disorder. The division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) at Weill Cornell Medical College enjoys international acclaim for the quality of comprehensive and innovative care our specialists provide for women and their fetuses during high risk pregnancies. Maternal-Fetal Medicine Women with at risk, high risk or with complicated pregnancies may be referred to the FAU for additional care by the Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists.

The team also includes a personal labor nurse and three anesthesia specialists for cesarean delivery and epidural care.
